RIGID came together in 2012 when drummer Steve Mankenberg invited guitarists Matt Burnett and Christopher Petkus to improvise together one evening in his tiny front room in Austin, TX. From that time until Matt left the US in 2014 they enjoyed a reputation as a powerful, and very loud, free improvising unit with live shows that are still remembered fondly among Austin’s experimental and noise communities.

After some sporadic activity, including a reunion performance in 2019, RIGID has finally released its first studio recording! Following Christopher’s suggestion that Steve record “some drum improvisations and send them,” those performances were knitted together with Christopher and Matt’s contributions to create this stirring addition to the RIGID catalog.
